Beocontrol is a small company with no common sense in terms of logistics of international relocations, moving service standard practices or professional and respectful conduct with customers. To name a few shortcomings of the company, they do not use moving trucks sufficient for household removal, charge 75% of the cost in advance, blame a customer for the company lousy logistics and refuse to deliver the removal to the final destination as agreed unless the payment in full was made before the delivery.

In the case of my door-to-door move, they dispatched a mid-size van for the agreed removal volume of 10-15 m3!!! As a result, only 10.5 m3 of the removal was loaded to the vehicle on the scheduled date and I was left with the remaining 1.5 m3 in The Hague waiting for the second pickup which eventually happened 7 weeks later. Let alone stress of the unexpected change of my moving plan, this had induced additional cost of extending my rental agreement in The Hague to accommodate for the staged removal.

To add an insult to injury, the management of the company started a blaming game insisting that I “underestimated” the removal volume, that the volume of their van was 17 m3 and therefore my removal had exceeded agreed volume. After I asserted that I did not estimate but had measured the volume of my removal and suggested not to argue about facts as the volume can be measured in their storage as opposed to estimating by comparison to the vehicle volume as though the removal was a bag of water, they added a removal weight and other nonsensical arguments and claimed that they had to pay a fine for the overweight of the vehicle because of me.
As that was not enough, they requested an appointment with their VP and me in their office in Belgrade to discuss the “issues” before they would deliver my belongings to the agreed destination; And then, the VP did not come to this appointment and could not be reached by telephone while the office manager was not authorized to make any delivery commitments in his absence.
Two days later the “issues to discuss” were conveyed to me by the VP’s email stating that the removal would only be delivered after I pre-pay remaining balance of the total agreed price plus additional staging cost of nearly 20% on top of the original price. He further stated that the company practice is to deliver only after pre-payment in full was made because of the past experience with customers that refused to pay the balance after removal was delivered. Sure enough, no such practice was mentioned on the company website or in the agreement.

The details I described above are just the most outrageous misconducts as including all of them would exceed reasonably long review and would be tiresome to a reader.

As an international migrant I moved many times and have had generally good experiences with moves and movers. However, moving with Beocontrol Group was by far the most stresful and had turned into a living hell, not just because of the complications in planning and additional cost, but primarily because of the rogue and offensive conduct of the company management which could not be excused under any circumstances.

I was inclined to give this company the lowest rating but have opted for 2 stars because the operating workers of Beocontrol, unlike their management, were professional, skillful and cordial. They did their best to save the face of the company under the circumstances and have delivered my removal to destination without damages or loss. Kudos to them for the effort in fitting a square peg in a round hole. Nevertheless, I would not recommend this company to anyone moving internationally where the stakes and/or expenses are high.

In hindsight, I should have canceled all arrangements with this company at the very moment of their arrival to The Hague with the vehicle insufficient for the removal of the volume agreed, as that was an obvious breach of the agreement. Not doing so was my contribution to the nightmare that unfolded due to the lousy logistics and a lack of a common and professional sense of this company management.

I hope that publishing this review will help others select a moving company wisely to prevent surprises and addition of even more stress to moving experience as one of the most stressful life events. I also hope that Beocontrol management may read the review (I am not holding my breath on this one…) and understand that doing business in the free global markets does not mean that customers could be treated in an unprofessional, unethical or lousy way and that relationship with customers is a 2-way street where respect begets respect and the other way around.
